Update on next version of President Forever 2012

Hi everyone,

The next version of President Forever 2012, v. 1.1.8, will be released at the end of this week (probably on Sep. 15th). It will contain save-load, an initial help file, and a couple other features. This will be the first official release. After that, we will continue to update the game, probably on a weekly basis, up until the election. Thanks for your interest, support, and feedback up to this point!

  1. I don’t know if you will eventually add possible people to run against Obama (Clinton, Sanders, Kucinich, etc). But if you do, I just want to remind you to make sure there are scheduled debates, somewhat similar to the Republican schedule.

Also about debates. I think that candidates should have to confirm their appearances. If a certain amount don’t confirm, then the debate is cancelled. This would also help in cancelling all debates if Obama is the only candidate running for his party, just as in real life. However, if others are running, then the debate option is available.

Also, maybe one day, the campaigns can start very early, the “exploratory committee phase”. This might allow even more possible people from jumping in. Although, this isn’t really a must for me as a gamer.

  2. I just wondered if the ability to split Maine and Nebraska’s EVs would become a possible feature? 2008 marked the historic first time of this happening and I have hoped since that P4E would incorporate this into its framework.

  3. I’d like the states to matter a little more. As an experiment, I had Romney go left wing on everything and Obama go right wing on everything. I started in the primary, Obama and Romney still won the states they were supposed to win. However, the % of undecided voters was large for a long time, which would be accurate. But inevitably, conservatives voted for a Liberal Romney over a Conservative Obama, and vice versa.

  4. @Jonathan,

Thanks for the feedback – that’s probably because some voters are ‘committed’ for one party or the other, and so even when the candidates switch their platform positions, those voters tend to stay with them. A way to change this would be to have more detailed information in the game engine about the voters’ own positions.

  5. First I wanted to say that you guys have put together an incredible game so far 🙂

Will the entire Republican field be included in this weekend’s official release?

  6. @KM,

Thanks for the feedback! The entire Republican field will not be included in the initial official release, but adding more Republican candidates will happen with subsequent releases.
